A couple of years ago I was given a box with the picture books of Kevin Henkes so I could read all of them to my students. He was the first author of the month that we would be learning about and I used his books to develop literacy. I didn’t know all of his stories, so I sat on the floor of my classroom, opened the box and started to read each of the many books he wrote and illustrated. To my surprise, I couldn’t stop laughing, learning new words, thinking about the many great activities I could do with my students and hoping that his books wouldn’t end.
Kevin Henkes has a gifted talent to create stories that can illustrate common situations in a very original way. I can read all of his stories again and again and I never get bored. I can also read his stories to students of all ages and all of them will honestly enjoy, laugh, and ask for more.
